Angry Republican/Loving American

 The news is distressing
Back to Full Blog

I have finally heard what Pat Robertson has been up to. Seen it on the news and listlened to on the radio. And of course on the Drudgereport. i knew the man was off his rocker, but comeon!!! Pat, please stop!!!

He is not the spokesperson for us true christians. I don't even know what he is thinking half of the time. First his comments about Ariel Sharon, then he is trying to put a theme park on the shores of Galilee. Yes that is right. He has finally gone off the deepend. I want people to know that Pat does not voice the true fellings of true believers. We just want him to shut up. Either that or to at least stop pretending.

It is people like him that are giving us the bad names. Those supposed Ministers of the word, are only money hungary fools, and the fact that they back they back the Republican Party makes it even worse. Most of them are nothing more than scam artists, and I wish that they would just go away. Leave well enough alone. The GOP would do themselves a big favor if they just put some distance between them and these scam artists. it is only making things worse. As long as these people continue to back the GOP, we will continue to look like a pack of fools.

Actually, if you look at the Book of Joel in the Holy Bible, God makes a direct reference to those who would try to divide his land. Pat Robertson is not so far off on this as the media would have us think. I recently discussed this on my blog--you may want to check it out. Now, in terms of the proposed theme park and assasinating Pre. Chavez, well, I have to agree with you. The assasination suggestion is particularly outrageous-Mike (Mr. Right Opinion)

Actually, you'll continue to look a pack of fools as long as you are a pack of fools. I would agree that it would be nice to see the GOP distance themselves from radical Christians - only because it makes up most of your base, you moron! Nerf the GOP!

Often the most vocal of a group, gets the most press. It often makes us liberals think that is who you want representing you. I feel the same way about Lieberman. All we can do is keep centering and assuring the otherside that this is not nor will ever be the mass viewpoints from our parties or groups.

Hello Mr. Furious! Haven't heard much from you in a while. I have heard too that there is some validity to the issue about dividing God's land but I do agree that Pat Robertson needs to hush for a little bit. I saw a funny political cartoon that was a parody of the "Creation" and instead of God reaching down to Adam, he was putting his hand over Robertson's mouth. Also I wanted to say to Winston that if you seriously think Republicans blindly follow Pat Robertson, then don't question our wondering of why y'all seem to be represented by Howard Dean, Cindy Sheehan, and Harry Belafonte, and Louis Farrakhan...

I agree about Pat Robertson. He represents the thoughts of some, I'm sure, but as a Christian I can assure you I do not support him. But every side has their loony-toons characters. The left has the folks that supported Saddam - and by virtue of that supported the filling of mass graves on his part, I suppose. They have those who claim Bush knew about 9/11 beforehand and did nothing (some loony Republicans made that charge of Roosevelt about Pearl Harbor, too). They have those who claim the Republicans placed explosives on the levies to kill black people in New Orleans. What's worse, they have those who believe all of that, too. So Pat is loony and I think he does a lot of damage to Christianity, but probably not the Republican party, just because most people realize he's waaaaaay out there. sharptalk

Dear Mr. F., ... I haven't had much to say in Blogworld lately. I've been taking some time to just shut up, listen, and try to learn. I've been searching high & low, taking notes, carefully processing the information I've gathered, and trying to be neutral. (It's a hard row to hoe for me, but at least I realize that about myself. It's been said that that's half the battle... I don't know. What's half a battle to a whole war?). You've said several times that you vote on the issues, and not whether "There's a D or an R after the name." I've come, of late, to the measured conclusion that you are exactly right on this count. I've been scouring the landscape, trying to find a Democrat who has some feasible answers to so much of the stuff that bothers me about our country today. I come up empty handed every time. As of yet, there seems to be no such beast. They, like myself, smolder, fume, & rattle, but offer no plans or solid answers to anything... just point fingers and look for more dirt on the Republican side of the room. It's not that they're not FINDING dirt... don't get me wrong. I can see tons of it, whirling & churning & scaring up plenty more where that came from. There's so much, in fact, that I've fertilized my whole blog with Republican dirt. But, like most of the Dems I've been looking at, all I've really cultivated is a healthy & refined bumper crop of sour grapes. I'm not saying that the Republicans are any different in my eyes than they were yesterday, or even 10 years ago. (You can scour the Bushes and still turn up nothing but lies, ignorance, & arrogance). But I've come to the end of my rope with the Democrats now, too... that's for sure. I guess I must have thought that their being the enemies of my enemies made them my allies. Stupid, backward logic, I admit. In fact, in the last election I would have undoubtedly voted for Nader, for his views & proposed policies on almost ALL of the issues were closest to mine. But out of fear, I voted for Kerry because I wanted Bush out of there so bad, and didn't think Nader had a chance. (In retrospect, I really don't think it would have made a difference how anybody voted - we'd still have Bush. And even without Bush's manipulations, the policy of the Electoral College makes our elections a sham anyway). At any rate, I thought I'd comment here, because I really feel we share a kindred anger and disillusionment with so many of those who supposedly stand in representation of our country, piling up beliefs and principles, and then turn around and dig our graves with the same shovel. Although I've never been a fan or a follower of his, I'm convinced Pat Robertsonhass slowly become senile and I no longer count him as a valid spokesperson for Christians, Conservatives, and/or Republicans. Nor do I think any sensible person could. Don't feel angry at him, though, or bad because of him. It's not his fault, and he's clearly no reflection on Christianity in his present state. Sadly, I doubt there's anything that can be done for this poor man, who has worked so hard, accomplished so much in his life and has been such a strong voice for so long. He's just another sad example of someone who's fought some great campaigns in the past, but needs someone to tell him it's time for a long rest now, in hopes that tomorrow will bring a better day for him. You know, Mr. F., you and I have always occupied different sides of the same coin in many ways, and there have been times when we surely thought each other to be, like Robertson, half an hour late for the loony bin. But I always admire the way you never back down, you always stand up for your beliefs and your family, you tout your principles, and that you're consistently a gentleman in your use of language, no matter how "Furious" you may become at those who try to batter you with profanity. (Sometimes me). You're a good man, Mr. F., and I have come to respect you greatly... Well, a little bit, anyway... Begrudgingly... Even when I'm right and you're plainly out to lunch... Which is just about always... (Just kidding!). I'd better get back to my self-imposed exile now. I've got a lump in my throat and may break down in tears at what a great, genuinely decent guy I am for SELFLESSLY opening up my heart to you this way, even though there's NOTHING in it for me. (But if you ARE really moved, "Don't Cry For Me, Oklahoma"! Just have the Mrs. send me some of that saurkraut dish she talked about a while back!). Ig

Interesting post and comments. I think Christians for the most part feel differently about Jerry Falwell, but I actually grew up in old Lynchburg VA and frankly, he is whacked. I knew quite a few other kids who went to his K-12 school and they had what I would call a rather controlling and out of the mainstream character. As for Pat, he seems like a smart guy, but then he goes off and start saying stupid things so it's hard to take him seriously when he comes close to being right on something (although I can't think of a time when he was right) - of course the media loves to pick up on only the cooky sound bites.
